At YourToyTrains, Model Trains we just love trains, and so does our President, Clyde Smith. Clyde's association with Toccoa, GA, goes back to 1974 when as a student at The University of Georgia Clyde took his brand new Ford Pinto on weekend day trips from Athens to Toccoa. When living in Atlanta from 1976 to 1984, Clyde often took the old highway- US 23 and US 123- through Toccoa as he went to visit his sister in Anderson, SC. Now Clyde lives in Texas, but as he loves to drive he sometimes spends the night in Toccoa when he visits his family in Lexington, South Carolina. Why is Toccoa so special? Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, this pretty little city is on the main line of the Norfolk Southern Railway (Southern Railway back in the 1970s). There is plenty of public parking trackside, a twice daily Amtrak train, great photo opportunities from bridges (See Image), friendly small town people, plus good lodging and restaurant choices. Clyde Smith and Toccoa. Since 1974.
