At YourToyTrains, we love history. We love providing MORE information than any other site. For example, our historical background on the Baldwin Shark in our O Scale Diesel Locomotive category.:
"The Bachmann O Baldwin Shark AB Set Pennsylvania (Tuscan Red) models the Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton RF-16 Sharknose diesel locomotive. Baldwin Locomotive Works, once the number one steam locomotive builder, was lagging far behind in the design and production of diesel locomotives, which after World War II were about the only engines being purchased. Immediate postwar designs were not successful, mainly due to mechanical issues. As a result Baldwin introduced theSharknose style in 1948 to differentiate their new locomotives from the previous unsuccessful ones. The RF-16 was introduced in 1950 using the Sharknose style. The 1,600 hp B-B engine was successful and known for its lugging power- Pennsylvania Railroad and Baltimore & Ohio used the Sharks to pull long coal drags. In 1950 Baldwin merged with Lima-Hamilton but the RF-16 proved too little too late. While 189 "A" Units and 51 "B" Units were built, BLW could not successfully break into mass producing diesel locomotives. Baldwin ceased production in 1956. This model, a powered "A" Unit and an unpowered "B" Unit, would replicate actual rail operations as this was the normal configuration of Shark locomotives."
