I continue to scan pictures from my photo albums into my computer. Today I came across a great memory. Back in 1996 I took the Amtrak Texas Eagle from Dallas to St. Louis, then rented a car and drove across Indiana and Ohio on US Route 50, eventually reaching Pittsburgh and Altoona, PA. On the night before I reached Altoona I spent the night in Latrobe, PA. Conrail's Philadelphia- Pittsburgh Main Line was very busy that night, and the station platform was open for perfect viewing. The former Pennsylvania Railroad station was now an Italian restaurant- and trackside. We are talking the perfect night here!
