YourToyTrains is proud of our veterans whose service has kept our country free. Always a class act, after World War II the Pennsylvania Railroad added the beautiful War Memorial into the main hall of the 30th Street Station in their headquarters city- Philadelphia, PA.
The sculptor was Mr. Walker Hancock, Instructor of Sculptor at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Dedicated in 1952, General Omar Bradley was present as was Mr. Robert Laws, Medal of Honor recipient and a sheet metal worker at the Pennsy's Altoona Works.
Footnote: Mr. Walker Hancock was one of the "Monuments Men"- remember the excellent movie- who served the US Army near the end of World War II recovering lost and stolen art treasures all over Europe.
It sounds like he had an interesting life!
