The Lone Ranger: Since its inception as a radio show on radio station WXYZ in Detroit in 1933, the "Lone Ranger" has been captivating children and adults for all these many decades. Roughly based on Zane Gray's Texas Ranger Captain John Hughes in Gray's 1915 book The Lone Star Ranger, the character has developed into an American pop icon. In the radio series and the television series (1949-1957), comic books, and several movies, The Lone Ranger and his faithful Indian sidekick Tonto "brought Justice to the Early West".
Historic Trivia: For us folks down here in Texas, throughout this state's often violent frontier history the very tough resourceful Texas Rangers, the basis of the Lone Ranger, fought the Indians, outlaws, Mexican bandits, and other desperadoes to make frontier Texas a place one could raise a family. As the Texas Rangers say, "One riot, one Ranger".
