The Bachmann HO Silver Series 56' ACF Centerflow Hopper Car Shell Plastics models the ACF Centerflow hopper cars introduced by ACF Industries (New name for American Car and Foundry adopted in 1954) in the early 1960s. TheCenterflow design featured a single central line of outlets as the car was designed without a center sill. Previous hopper cars had two lines of outlets on the car- on either side of the center sill. American Car and Foundry was formed in 1899 by the merging of 13 smaller railroad car builders. The company, as ACF Industries, based in St.Charles, MO, survives today both as a major railcar manufacturer and car lessor.

The company has become one of the world's largest integrated oil companies with major operations in the United States based in Houston, TX. In 1929 Shell Oil Company (US) launched Shell Chemical Company to manufacture byproducts from the petroleum refining process including industrial chemicals, polymers, catalysts, and consumer products.
