The Bachmann HO Scale Hayes Bumpers (2 Per Card) Steel Alloy models the Hayes Bumper developed by the Hayes Track Appliance Company of Richmond, IN. Placing the bumper at the end of a track segment will provide an extra safety feature to avoid a derailment, just like on a real railroad.
Historical Note: Hayes Track Appliance Company was purchased by Federal Signal Corporation in 1970. Federal Signal already owned the Western Railroad Supply Company, and the operations of the two companies were merged. In 1977 a group of investors purchased these divisions from Federal Signal and named their new company Western-Cullen-Hayes Inc. Now based in Chicago, this company remains a major supplier of railroad products including crossing gates, bumpers, plus many more.
