The Atlas HO Gold GE Dash 8 8-40CW DCC Sound Conrail 6059 models the General Electric Transportation Systems' Dash 8 Series of locomotives, where the most important changes to the Dash 7 Series was a microprocessor for train control and modular construction. An important Third Generation locomotive for GE, the Dash 8 8-40CW ("W" is for Wide or Safety Cab) sold 756 units between 1990-94.

Conrail: The Consolidated Rail Corporation was created in 1976 by Act of Congress to save the troubled railroads of the Northeast, mainly Penn Central but other lines as well. With aggressive pruning and the deregulation of the rail industry, the Federal corporation became an independent private company in 1987. Now a successful railroad, "Big Blue" was purchased by Norfolk Southern and CSX in 1998, restoring rail competition to the Northeast.
